Has anyone experienced spasticity in their legs?

I have experienced some numbness before but never to this degree. I am on day four now of weakness/numbness in my left leg that makes it very difficult and exhausting to walk. I’ve rested, stretched, iced it, and it hasn’t completely gone away. It’s especially bad in the mornings and has prevented me from getting to work. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

  1. Hi I am sure that is incredibly frustrating and somewhat dangerous. Are you using a cane or anything other device to stabilize yourself while you walk? Have you talked with you doctor about this new level of spasticity? Here is an article from one of our advocates about his experiences with spasticity. https://multiplesclerosis.net/video/spasms-and-stiffness-life-with-spasticity/. I thought you might find it helpful.
I hope you find some relief soon. Best wishes! – Lori, MultipleSclerosis.net, Team Member

    1. Sorry to hear that ! If these are new symptoms or much worse than normal, you should be sure to reach out to your MS specialist in case it's the start of an exacerbation, in which case, steroids may be warranted. Even if it isn't that, they should be made aware.

      1. Hi Lori and Devin,

My Dr. has put me on a high dose steroid for the next 5 days, so hopefully that will help. In the meantime, I’m taking plenty of rest, hot and cold compresses, and taking some time away from work. A cane wouldn’t be a bad idea, but I’m just home, so think I’ll be ok without for now. I read the article from you Devin and it was informative. Also, relatable, so makes me feel not so alone. Hope this passes soon!

        1. Hi , I am glad you are taking some time off and playing it safe. Please keep us posted. Wishing you the best! – Lori, MultipleSclerosis.net, Team Member

      2. Skesler1067,

Spasticity is mainly what I am dealing with now. My daytime spasms tend to be quick and short. However, my nighttime spasms last longer and cause stiffness and pain. The muscle on my thighs will contract at times to a 45* angle and won’t release for minutes sf a time.

I am on Baclofen, but am concerned it’s not helping My neuro wants me to have an MRI. The way my spasming is so Indiscriminate, I am concerned they would interrupt my test. (I am sure the continued heat wave pis contributing to my specificity)

Speak to your Dr. and get a recommedation!! I am glad you have not indicated you are dealing with a lot of pain.!!

        Take care, Lisasnyc
