Coordination Problems

  1. I have extreme difficulty picking up and holding onto small items, such as pills, coins, screws, etc., as well as difficulty letting them go properly. That is, getting pills back in the bottle, sorting coins into containers. I can’t tell where my fingers are on a keyboard and very often can’t tap the right letter on my phone keyboard, even when I’m looking right at it. Turning pages and separating papers are difficult as well. Part of the issue is lack of sensation in tips of all fingers on my right hand - constantly. I also have severe carpal tunnel syndrome (entrapment of nerve to thumb, index, middle, and half of ring finger) in both hands, severe cubital tunnel syndrome (entrapment of nerve to ring and little fingers) on both sides, and entrapment of spinal nerve root C4/5 on the left and C8 on the right. I have previously had surgery on both hands for carpal tunnel. The weakness and clumsiness now feels different. Any thoughts on how to differentiate between MS, cervical spine issues, and wrist/elbow issues? I don’t want unnecessary surgery that won’t help if the problems aren’t properly differentiated. Thanks.

    1. Thanks

  2. I also have something like that going on like dropping light weight objects a lot. Also just like “Melalexa” posted quite awhile back, I’m looking right at the letters on my keyboard phone and still clicking the wrong ones “more than once”. I will invert words typing without realizing it; also saying phrases or words backwards. Currently I will set an object down somewhere and then knock it right over on release!! This is happening a lot and ohh my goodness it’s annoying. At my work I sometimes have the task of scanning packages at a fast pace. Well it’s not my best work believe me. I hit the trigger on my gun twice too many times, putting out 2 labels & then have to compensate, backing things up. I have not been diagnosed yet. They say no lesions on brain & just not enough symptoms...??? Coordination is just the one bugging me more right now, but have had “many” off & on.

    1. Hi, nananell7sep ! I am sorry you are experiencing MS like issues like you described! How frustrating! You are definitely not alone in this, as you can see from previous comments.

There are a number of conditions that can mimic MS symptoms and you may want to ask your physician if any of them may be the likely culprit in your case. You can read a bit about them here -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/ruling-out-other-health-conditions.

I do hope your physician is able to get to the bottom of what is going on and that you are able to get some lasting relief!
