What were your initial symptoms that got you to your dr to be diagnosed?

Good afternoon, I will just cut to the chase. I stumbled across your website while researching why my legs suddenly started feeling like they have little wet spots all over them. I have had this feeling about 3 or four times over the last month.

I thought I just needed to shave

At first, I thought I just needed to shave, but even after shaving, I have had this sensation a couple more times. I have not even had MS mentioned in any dr’s visits. I have not even mentioned this to my dr as the virus has limited everything in everyone’s life at the moment it seems.

Initial symptoms that led to a diagnosis

I guess the question I have for you is what were the initial symptoms that got you to your dr to be diagnosed? I have moments of confusion when talking, there are times I can not think of a simple thing I am trying to say, I stay tired or sleepy or fatigued (I have a few days when I have more energy), I have been diagnosed with IBS-C, I can not tolerate cold and the heat which I could be in all the time seems to bother me now as well, the colder it is in our room at night the more I sweat, I have off-balance moments but I played these off to getting older (I’m 41).

Too young to feel this way

As a teen, I was a cheerleader and majorette with very good balance. Even through my 20’s, I did not have issues. I guess I just don’t want to go to my dr appearing like one of those people who diagnose themselves on the internet. I just want answers. I don’t feel like I’m old enough to feel the way I do. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Hi , sorry to hear of the issues you've been having. My initial symptoms were weakness in my legs (to the point that I eventually couldn't walk), this was about 20 years ago when I was just 22 and in excellent shape (I even played collegiate ice hockey at the time). I eventually recovered from that exacerbation and got diagnosed with MS not long after. In the years since, I've had many other symptoms, including the fatigue and confusion that you've mentioned, as well that wet feeling you've described. That said, many symptoms of MS can also be caused by other illnesses as well. Either way, I'd say you certainly have enough to talk to a neurologist and share your concerns. It is much better to know than to not know, and don't worry about what the doctor thinks, trust me, they see far stranger things than this. Best of luck!

    1. Thank you so much!

      1. Hi jbrookes,
thank you for reaching out and asking this excellent question! I'm including a link just in case you missed this article that was put out by our editorial team: https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/weird-symptoms/

For me the symptoms that led to my even going to a doctor in the first place, (and it took a lot before I would go!) was the sensation of being pushed. Falling so hard that it was more like someone coming from behind and pushing me down. Also nystagmus. (My eyes rapidly moving back and forth.) Extreme clumsiness ...walking into stationary things, tripping, etc. Lack of balance, and not being able to walk very well.

I'm with Devin, I would encourage you to talk to your doctor as soon as you can about what you've been experiencing. Hopefully the above links can provide you with some talking points/questions to bring up.

Please keep us posted and know we're thinking of you!
