Issues Walking...

I'm still a little new to this "MS thing", as I was diagnosed January 2013 at 43 years old. I can not walk for extended periods of time (or sometimes, short periods of time) without my right leg just wanting to give out on me. I always push a cart when in a store where it's available, but am unsure what to do when it just hits me out of the blue. I really don't want to stop doing things where walking is a concern, and I don't want to rely completely on my husband to get me from point A to point B. Will exercising my legs allow me to walk for longer lengths of time? Or will this just make them tired? I appreciate anyone's advice or comments. Thanks!

  1. Hi lalyhe. We are so sorry to hear about your difficulties. If you haven't already done so, it may be best to talk to your physician about developing and tailoring an exercise program that helps address the specific symptoms and challenges you're having with walking.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

    1. Thanks so much for your response. I meet with him again the beginning of January and plan on bringing a list of questions along with a list of what's been ailing me. 😀 Thanks again!

      1. Many years ago, I had the very same thing happen to me not too long after being diagnosed. I would be walking along and my leg would just fall out from under me and I would fall down. This only lasted several months and, thankfully, has never returned for me. I don't know if that same will be true for you but I wanted you to hear something positive about the same symptom.

        1. I was diag. Aug. 1999 have been having a lot of stiffness in right knee, any help with this would be appreciated.

          1. I would talk to your doctor about this. Physical therapy might help.
