severe burning pain

Has anyone else experienced a severe burning sensation? Mine happens in my legs. It feels like I'm burning from the inside out. It comes on suddenly lasts about 5 minutes, it is from my butt down to my toes. It feels like my leg is in a campfire. Unfortunately when this happens my other leg has severe pain and cramps up and freezes like a statue. I have been lucky enough that the 5 or 6 times it has happened I have something to lean on or someone to help me as I can[t use either leg. The burning is extremely painful and very draining.

  1. Hello anybody out there experience this or anything similar?

    1. Yes I too have the intense burning pain. It feels like my legs are on fire, usually happens at night when I am at rest, and lasts, to various degrees, all night. It is in both legs, from my knees down, especially in my calves. My neurologist has prescribed Gabapentin, which I take 4x a day, 100mg. each. It helps somewhat.

    2. Hi Sharon...
My “burn” is there when I wake up then gets more intense as day wears on...horrible.
So how are you able to fall asleep when it’s like this? I am to the point where usually they are so bad I need 5mg of a sleeping pill to help knock me out. Otherwise, there’s no way I’m falling asleep. Just too uncomfortable to relax. I hate taking these pills but I’ve come to no alternative. We all know how the sleep we need is paramount...

  2. I am so sorry you didn't get any replies the first time around, ecobb27! I know some of our members have described burning sensations in their limbs. I know two of our contributors deal with burning pain and write about it from time to time. Here is a recent piece by Devin that discusses the various forms of MS pain he has dealt with, including burning -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/the-torture-that-is-chronic-pain/. One of our other contributors, Ashely, also discusses her various MS issues here -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/whats-like/. If you haven't already discussed this with your physician, please do. Your neurologist may be able to help you come up with some treatment options. I am sorry you are having to deal with this MS symptom and I do hope you are able to get some relief very, very soon. Thank you for reaching out! Best, Erin, MultipleSclerosis.net Team Member.

    1. I have burning pain like you are talking about, most nights while I am laying in bed. But my burning pain is ALWAYS on the front of my right thigh. I have mentioned it to my Neurologist and my pain doctor, they both just claim that it is my MS and nerve damage. But I DO, FEEL YOUR PAIN

        1. Thank you for your suggestion, Mike H! That's some great out-of-the-box thinking on the part of your neurologist! Best, Erin, MultipleSclerosis.net Team Member.

        2. When you hear that other people have the same pain , you don’t feel alone . My right thigh also have the burning sensation. The pain is so bad I can’t touch or even but my blanket over it. It’s happen to me more here lately because I have broken my left leg and using the right leg more.
