Anyone experience this type of vertigo?

Hi everyone. I'm very frustrated and just trying to figure out what's wrong with me. I have bouts of vertigo that come on suddenly, no warning, but the spinning typically lasts only 10 - 20 minutes. My neuro says it's not long enough to be MS, must be in my ear. My ENT says it's too long to be an ear problem, absolutely is in the brain. One neuro said MRI is normal, one said 2 lesions. Also have general dizziness, numbness in hands and feet, pain in foot and wrists. Where do I go from here?

  1. Hi there. I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with vertigo too. Mine manifests in various ways and often results in a panic attack. Once I was diagnosed with an eye disorder “catch up saccades” that lasted for a few days but the vertigo persists. I did not have success finding a clinician who could treat it but have used the “Epley maneuver” (sp?) which chiropractors can perform or you can work with a partner and try it at home. It seems to wear off, if it works at all. As soon as I feel a twinge of vertigo I take a Dramamine. The clinician who was the most sympathetic and supportive was my mental health care doc. I report to her what’s going on, we use Dramamine and some anti anxiety meds to control my symptoms. Good luck! This is a very annoying symptom to live with. Talk to your most trusted doc about motion sickness meds. My mother also suffers from vertigo and sometimes uses ginger supplements to help control it which she claims sometimes help. I feel for you, vertigo is hard to live with but you can find ways to cope that work for you. Oh, I have had MS for perhaps 25 years, diagnosed in 2013. I also avoid caffeine when vertigo kicks up. Seems to help me a lot. I wish you well.

    1. Thanks so much for your help. I will try your suggestions. Take care!

  2. I certainly do have the vertigo you speak of. I never have a warning, it is just there and I best be hanging on to something or I am in the floor, left to crawl to my chair. Don't believe that is not a major symptom of MS. I have learned to always have an anchor of some sort, that came after I fell backwards into brick and had 8 staples and 5 stitches in my head as a result. I suggest you find a neurologist that specializes in MS and I think you will have your answer.

    Good wishes.

Yes, I have numbness in both feet. In fact, my neurologist yesterday stuck needles in both of my feet and I did not feel any pain or even being touched. My feet used to be come and go, but now it is full time.

    1. chong61,
Thanks for your reply. Yes...i've found that having an anchor is a must!
      Best wishes

  3. Vertigo is an issue of mine. My DR. wanted me to go to PT. It is a hassle where it is located, plus they needed 90 minute sessions which I am unable to endure now. Good luck.

    1. Thank you!

  4. Hi, I sure know what you are going through. It was that caused me to find out what was wrong with me. They first thought I may have meinears (sp.) disease. Nope was not that. Then was sent to a neurologist who specializes in MS. After some tests yep I have MS that was in 1992. They feel now I have had it most of my life. Believe me it explains so much. My younger Brother was diagnosed about 10 years after me. So I advise going to a neurologist who specializes in MS. Thoughts and Prayers are with you. Jilly
