Age

My doctor recently - 1 1/2 years ago took me off my MS Med. She said you don't need them after age 60. What is your view on this?

  1. Hi ,
Was she correct? Did you feel appreciably worse after going off the drug, or do you feel the same?
The above not withstanding, I have a difficult time understanding how one's age, taken in isolation, would change how one reacts to a drug. Have to admit, it doesn't make sense to me.

    1. I'm 58 and this has been a topic of discussion with my Neurologist since last year. I'm on an excellent DMT and fear not having my medication. So, I've asked to table the conversation until my 60th year.

      1. Really? This surprises me. I don’t know why your age would render DMTs ineffective. I’m 50 but I’ll ask my neurologist about it next time I see him.

        1. Hi, ! First, please keep in mind that I am no expert and your doctor will know about your medical history than I will. That said, I tend to agree with the other community members that have commented on your post. Especially as lifespan increases, I don't see the correlation between stopping treatment when a person reaches some predetermined age. I am aware that DMTs can have a host of side effects that can have long term implications, but again, I also think starting or stopping any treatment based on one factor seems a bit shortsighted.

But, how have you been feeling since you have been off your meds? Also, has your MS progressed noticeably in this time? I think those two questions are very important in this discussion.
