Lyrica side effects?

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with MS a few weeks ago. Left arm and hand numb and thumb and index finger felt paralysed. I got a steroid infusion that didn't help and then the neurologist prescribed me Lyrica. Hand and arm feel much better now but I have since gotten new symptoms: weak muscles in the leg, tingling feet (mainly soles) and the skin on my whole torso feels numb. This all started when I started taking Lyrica. Neurologist wants to do another mri to see if this is a new MS attack. I am wondering though if these new symptoms could be Lyrica side effects? Neurologist doesn't think so but my gut feeling says it's the Lyrica.
Has anyone experienced this as well?

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! I am glad you found us, especially so soon after being diagnosed. You will find lots of support here from people who have been where you are now. Muscle weakness is a potential side effect of Lyrica, but it is uncommon. I can see why your doctor wants to do another MRI. Numbness and tingling are very common symptoms of MS, so I am guessing when he puts it all together with the muscle weakness, he feels the symptoms more likely point to an MS flare. We are not medical experts though and it is good that you question these things. Too often, people attribute new symptoms to MS when it is actual a sign of another health condition. Has your doctor put you on any medication to slow the progression of MS? I do not have any personal experience with Lyrica, so I hope you get responses from others in the community as well. Keep us posted, if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thank you so much Lori. I haven't started any other medication yet. Will discuss options with my neurologist soon.
