Multiple Sclerosis ruined my life

This is the first post I have ever done In a forum. Let me start by saying MS created a real issue only life. Finding a job that I can do with my limitations is difficult to say the least and my living situation is now homeless. All of the rental properties need proof of income up to 3.5 X the rent. Not to mention the fees have added up as me and my boyfriend submitted application after application. I have reached out everywhere but it looks like I will be staying in a homeless shelter tonight. The man that bought the property we live on told us that if we pay 800 a month we can stay, but we do not trust him as he called yelling and screaming. The house we are being kicked out of should have been condemned years ago. We told the new property owner that we would pay the rent but some repairs would have to be made and the PO started yelling again about splitting hairs. We even offered to help him fix it up but he has been adamant and aggressive. I have no confidence that once we give him the 800 he will hold up his side of the deal. So here I sit on my phone trying to find somewhere to go. Sitting in a house with 3 holes in the roof, no water, shorted out electricity and I am beyond anxious.I am experiencing severe chest pain and it feels like my heart is pounding through my chest. I live in SC if anybody knows of anywhere to rent I am employed but I do not start my job until Monday. My BF is employed full time. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I know that we are not the only ones being pushed out of our homes as I see the homeless rate rise to insane numbers. The awareness of this situation is so lacking as our country sends money overseas we Americans are left forgotten. Our leaders collect taxes from us and send it to help others without consideration for the taxpayers. I pray it stops soon.

  1. , I am so glad you took the time to post here. I am so sorry you are in this situation. I know that the crazy housing market has had a profound affect on the rental market and rent increases are spiking across the country. That's so unfair and I have some pretty strong opinion on that topic, but I'll try to stay focused here.

It sounds like you have been working really hard to keep a roof over your head and I am sorry you haven't secured stable housing yet. Have you reached out to your local united way -- https://www.unitedway.org/my-smart-money/pages/community-resources-to-help-with-housing# (you can call 211 to speak with a person in your area if you are facing an emergency situation) ? Also, I am not 100% sure you and your boyfriend would qualify for this program, or if they even have a branch in your area, but this program could be something to check out -- https://familypromise.org/. They may have a religious affiliation, but I can't remember for sure. They do have links to other organizations they have partnered with, so it may be worth checking out. I know time is of the essence here, so I hope this isn't a waste of your time.

I would like to address your MS as well, and how you are managing it, but I think focusing on your housing situation first might be wise. I do hope the job you are starting turns out to be a good fit.

I wish I could offer you a place to stay til you get some money saved up, but, I'm in another part of the country. I assume you have checked with family and friends or that may not be an option for you?

Hang in there! I wish you weren't in this situation, but it sounds like you and your boyfriend are not strangers to tough situations. You can do this.

Please, please keep us posted and I will share anymore information about housing, should I find something I think might be helpful for you.

    1. I have reached out to every organization could find. Shelters are full when it comes to men, emergency assistance is overtaxed and incapable of keeping up with this. I have extended my search and am thinking about camping out on the capital building with signs saying taxation without representation until something is done about this issue. My MS is very well maintained as long as I follow the rules and don't get overheated. They just switched me to Mavenclad and I just finished my first course and am about to start my second. I was on Rebif for two years and then it started to cause flares instead of prevent them. You are right we are not strangers to suffering as the house we were living in is in complete need of a fire station controlled burn. Things are growing worse and worse each day and it is creating more havoc than they see. We will be checking into a motel for a week but if something does not pop up soon idk.... My family is struggling as well and my cousins all have multiple families living with them. I am among the lost at this point. I am forgotten, overlooked, and ignored like so many other Americans as our country destroys itself to save other countries the people on the home front are nothing more than numbers and dollar signs. Sorry don't mean to go on a political rant here. I am tired of sitting down and shutting up like our government wants and am ready to start standing up shouting.

      1. My heart goes out to you, . No one should have to go through this. I am glad you are in a motel tonight and not a shelter. I am too far away to be of any help. Are you in a city or a more rural area? Do you have transportation or do you have to be on a bus line? Unfortunately, the most convenient apartments often come with the highest price tags. Have you tried contacting the Navigator service of the National MS Society? There might be housing and/or financial help you qualify for because of your MS. Here is a link: https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Resources-Support/Find-Support/Ask-an-MS-Navigator. It's worth a shot. Please keep us posted about your situation. All this stress cannot be good for your MS. Thinking of you and sending lots of gentle hugs your way. - Lori (Team Member)
