What was your first symptom?

Just out of curiosity, what was your first symptom of MS if you can remember?

This is my first day here, and my second post.
My first post has the subject of not yet diagnosed.

I have had my symptoms now for three and a half weeks, I was first diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines 3 years ago, but now because of my new symptoms and thinking that I am here with MS, I think I was misdiagnosed! My headaches are worse even after being prescribed the prescription Aimovig, it was very effective until now, I have had tremors in my right hand most of my adult life, and thinking that it was because of a old injury.

I was told to keep a diary of sorts with my symptoms on a daily basis especially until I am diagnosed with this horrid disease. October 28th is my MRI, next month I have a an appointment with a dermatologist because I think I also have skin cancer. And then I may have sooner appointment to my rheumatologist. And now I have to seek out a new neurologist, and just in case I have to find an oncologist.

So my question to you, whomever is reading this what was your very first symptom? Mine was head, facial, mouth tingling and tongue numbness.

Thank you in advance for your reply.
Always a friend, Laird!

  1. Hi, ! I'm surprised you haven't gotten a response to your questions yet!

Your question is a good one. And if I have learned anything after being a part of this community for almost seven years, if you ask 100 people, you may get up to 100 different answers. There's usually some commonality to individual's diagnosis stories, but MS definitely likes to keep things interesting by manifesting in so many different ways.

Some people experience vision issues or dizziness. Or numbness, tingling, or pain. Foot drop. Migraine. Muscles weakness. The list goes on and on and on.

It sounds like you are dealing with a lot right now and I hope the doctors are able to get to the bottom of what's going on. I hope it turns out that you don't have skin cancer, as that just adds more complexity to an already complex medical situation.

And, I do hope other community members see your post and start sharing their first symptoms.

    1. Thank you for your message Erin, I was in the ER last night for 3 hours with cellulitis on both of my lower legs, they gave me IV antibiotics for 2 and 1/2 hours equivalent to two bags of antibiotic my blood pressure was Sky High when I got there because of the pain, it was 166/100.
So anyway my first symptom was head face mouth tingling and tongue numbness, the first day I went to the ER with this they chalked it up to anxiety, or so they thought. The next day I came in with left-sided paralysis, they said it was not a Tia or a stroke. In the past I had been diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines but at that time I was not having a migraine. I'm not sure what to do at this point I do have three or four things scheduled, this coming Friday I have my MRI, then I have an appointment with my PCP, then an appointment with a dermatologist, and then an appointment with the rheumatologist in November, all in November but certainly not quick enough. You obviously can't rush these doctors just because you think your symptoms are absolutely horrible!

Thank you again Erin for your reply, message and if you are a Christian, and you pray will you keep me in your prayers please?

      1. , I am so sorry! What a rough weekend! I hope you are doing okay tonight. I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
