"I have been hesitant to post an update as I basically have been in disbelief. Diagnosed in 12/18 with MS after many years of doctor's telling me ll symptoms pointed to MS but never diagnosed. I was not looking looking for diagnosis but stumbled upon it when my orthopedist pushed me to a neurologist as he suspected MS. I am 71. Exam and brain scan told neurologist to diagnose me with MS. He was unable to answer my questions, said does not treat after age 60 and sent me to a MS clinic at a large teaching hospital. Neurologist said exam and scan was abnormal. She consulted with other doctors, gathered old records and said my scan has an bandit amount of scarring BUT it is not MS because it does not have black dots in the scan. So undiagnosed me, has concerns as this problem started too young with no obvious cause. She will follow me and eventually do a new scan. Can anyone shed some light on what the scan looks like for MS? I am okay with no MS for sure not sure who to believe."

"I have been waiting to post an update to my current situation but I really need some support. I was diagnosed in December of last year. I was unable to get an answer to what type of MS it is and the Doctor finally he could not determine that. He did actually say the brain scan and long history is MS. He has referred me to an MS doctor at a large university hospital. In March I met with that doctor who said the exam which was extensive was abnormal as well as the scan. She is collecting years of records. However, she did not recently that the most recent scan is no classic for MS. I have not seen her since March and have an appointment in June. I am so filled with anxiety as to what it is if not MS. I was not happy with the diagnosis but it did make sense of so many ailments. Now, not really sure how to feel. This is such an unsettling situation. Thanks for your support."
bones18 - It really doesn't matter what type of MS you actually have. If you need to know, I hope the referral to another doctor helps you. Let us know.
Apart from not being able to tell me the type he believes that a person over 60 does not ned treatment. I am 71. I guess I just want to make sure I am getting proper care. Thanks for your reply and support.
"Had to cancel p/t. Beating myself up for that. "
"Spring is here. Pain immediately escalates. My Neurologist who told me MS does not cause pain and he also could not tell me what type of MS I have. Now I am with an MS Specialist who is gathering all my records. She gave me a next appointment for 3 months from now. I am assuming that I will hear from her on whether she supports the MS diagnosis. Taking gabapentin 1800 but sometimes 2400. Does anyone think I should contact her about this awful pain or just wait to hear from her. She was sharp and disagreed with the other doctor who said he does not treat patients after 60. Rare to hear a doctor openly disagree with another doctor. I do not want to become an annoying patient. I have given myself time off today. Other than grocery shopping and prescription pickup and dog walking I am taking time off. HA HA! Everyone have a good day."
