Struggling for Answers

I have been unable to work since last August. My first symptoms was tingling and numbness in my leg. Then it progressed to include my arms and legs. Sometimes I get severe itching that seems to come in waves. I get dizzy. Food doesn’t taste right anymore and my leg just goes out. Either it’s very stiff or I can’t lift it or bend it. I’m stuck using a cane I’m exhausted all the time Dr said he thinks I have MS. But the MRI was normal and canceled the LP test. And sent me home with no answers and I am lost as to what to do now?

Hey, chickenfarmer, was your doc a neurologist? If you want to get a second opinion, you could try to get a referral to a neurologist–or MS specialist if you have access to one. Diagnostic testing for MS includes both brain and spine MRIs among other procedures. In addition, there are several medical conditions that have the same symptoms as MS. Your doc should be investigating other possibilities.

I suggest you keep a symptom log and make doc appointments as needed. If your doc isn’t interested in investigating your symptoms, it might be time to find another one. Also know that if you have a need, you can be prescribed symptom medications without having a diagnosis. This would be something to discuss with your doctor.

I hope you find some answers and relief very soon. I’m glad you posted your situation. Please keep us updated. We care. –Kim, moderator
