This year marks a very special year for us here at MultipleSclerosis.net. In 2023, we are celebrating our 10th site anniversary while also celebrating MS Awareness Month. To kick things off, we asked some familiar faces in the community what the last 10 years have looked like for them and their MS.

Ten years ago in 2012 I participated in an MS clinical trial; all tests, exams & medication were free & things were being tracked on an ongoing basis. A hypersensitivity to medications & chemicals which runs in my family made my participation a bit limiting, so often times I wasn't able to handle exactly what was being tested. I went from daily Sub-Q injections of Copaxone to oral Laquitamode to Plegridy. The Laquitamode provided me with lasting comfort; but, the med wasn't released in the US. Plegridy made me extremely isick, so around 2015 my neurologist, who happened to be the trial director, & I decided to stop all MS Therapies. That was the best decision ever made since being diagnosed! Since then, I've been taking over the counter Vitamins, especially D which when depleted seems to be a commonality amongst MS patients. I also take Tumeric, Omega 3, Magnesium, B12, Women's Centrum Silver Multi, & a few others. These affordable vitamins have kept me going in good health, stronger & more alert than ever! I haven't taken any MS medications in 8 years! My diminished Cognitive abilities have significantly improved except for an occasional Word Finding delay - don't try to get me to compete on Jeopardy, give me a moment to think about it & I'm fine. Before jumping into taking prescription meds which can cost a fortune, explore your alternatives - your providers should encourage your decision. Best of luck!

Thank you both for your positive reactions. Whenever I share my story, I try to be clear why my Neurologist & I chose to stop the MS therapies - I'd hate for someone to use me as an example for why they shouldn't take a recommended course. I consider myself extremely lucky - not everyone has that opportunity. Too many of my friends are severely disabled as a result of their types of MS, I pray for their & everyone's health & recovery.
