Caution to Mavenclad patients

My husband was prescribed Mavenclad in 2018 for his MS and Jan 2021 he was diagnosed with Therapy related AML , cytogenetic test confirms cause is exposure to chemotherapy , the only exposure is the Mavenclad . I so wish we had of been more informed of risks . He suffered profound low counts that never fully recovered but at 19 months after 1st dose they insisted on giving him second . Which as I’ve seen should never of been given . Please to everyone prescribed Mavenclad , educate yourselves !!!! I sure wish I knew then what we know now . I think anyone receiving this chemo agent should require consult with a Hematologist. Anyways we can’t change what has happened to my husband and by sharing his story hope it prevents it from happening to others.

  1. I am so sorry for all you and your husband are going through, @M2018. Unfortunately, most every MS medication comes with potentially serious risks. It is really important to research them and weigh the benefits against those risks. I wish your husband's doctor had discussed this further with him. Thank you for taking the time to share his story with others in the community. Thinking of you both! - Lori (Team Member)
