Do you Age out of needing DMT's?

Hi, I am going on 55 and have had MS for 10 years. My MS has been stable for a few years other than constant low grade spasticity in the back of my right leg.
I have heard that some woman, after menopause, are able to go off their DMT. I was just wondering who might have experience with this and how it has worked for her.

  1. Hi, !

This is a great question and the answer is . . . sometimes. Some individuals and their physicians decide that the value of DMTs may not be worth the possible side effects, especially after an individual reaches a certain age. That said, it's a highly personal decision to stop conventional treatments. Here's one conversation on this topic from our forums -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/forums/eligible-age-to-consider-stopping-ms-treatment. And here's one of our contributor's experience with considering stopping treatment -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/stopping-treatment-due-to-age. I hope some of our members that have done this will so your post and chime in here!
