Exercise is nearly impossible

The only exercise I get is from walking, and I can't even do that if it's even slightly muggy out. When I sweat, I become dizzy and lightheaded. As soon as I start to sweat, I'm done with whatever I was planning on doing. It's too much. Because of this, I carry a lot of extra weight, probably about 50 pounds at this point. I try to eat healthy, but my medications make it difficult to actually lose any weight. I'm also diagnosed bipolar and I have to take one of my meds with at least 350 calories or else you get sick and vomit. It's called latuda and it's the most effective medication I've ever used for treating bipolar 1 disorder. I also take olanzapine which causes weight gain. I just can't win, I'm either thin and manic or I'm overweight but mostly happy with my life. It's difficult choosing my mental health over my physical health but I don't know what else to do. Any ideas??

  1. ,
I hear your frustration. It's such a catch-22, when it comes to many medications. They provide some wonderful results yet the side effects that come along with them are not too favorable. We always recommend weighing your options and risks/benefits of these medications and discussing your concerns with your healthcare provider.

    1. I can't spend even an hour outside. I tried to walk yesterday. It was only 59, so quite cool. I couldn't even walk a full hour.

I just bought a walking pad so I can walk indoors.

      1. thanks for joining the conversation. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with walking, but I really have to admire your sense of resiliency and determination. You made the effort yesterday - and got some steps in - and then you bought the walking pad so you have an option for indoors. Just in case you don't see this in yourself, that reflects strength, determination and creativity! So I hope that you're giving yourself credit for that. I would love to hear how your walking pad turns out. Is that like a walking treadmill that many people put under the standing desks? I would love to hear more about it if you have a moment.
        Thanks

      2. I have to second, Alene here. Where most people would have simply given up, you thought of an alternative! Kudos to you for staying the course and not giving up on being active. We need this kind of grit here in our community! -Latoya (Team Member)

    2. Hi, Alene - yes this is just like the treadmill that people use under standing desks, but it has handles. The ones that go under walking desks don't.
