Have been having a lot of fatigue.

I have been having a lot of fatigue the last few days. I don't know if it's because of the MS or not or whatever. I'm so freaking tired from getting up in the morning to going to sleep in the evening. I try getting myself awake with energy drinks but it won't help. I'm just so exhausted all the time.

  1. Hi, .

I am so sorry you are dealing with an energy slump. Honestly, getting to the root of it might take awhile. I know of a person who always has about a two week slump in January for no discernible reason. She just feels . . . bleh. She takes it easy for two weeks and then she tends to feeling more energetic. It's not illness. It's not depression. It's just, what I call, "the bleh".

That said, it could be MS related or something else. You can always check with your doctor, too. I tend to not fight the fatigue when it comes. I know we still have to get up and go to work or run errands, etc. But, maybe just do what you can to get through the day and then take it easy? I know resting doesn't necessarily recharge one's batteries, but it might help?

I do hope you start noticing an increase in your energy very soon.

    1. Ugh—fatigue is really a pain. I truly wish you didn’t have to go through this. Constant fatigue can be such a struggle, especially when you're unsure if it’s MS-related or something else. It can feel never-ending and so frustrating. Have you been able to talk to your doctor about this? If not, it might be helpful to have that conversation to get to the root cause. In the meantime, I want to share an article with you that talks about managing fatigue specifically related to MS-https://multiplesclerosis.net/treatment/manage-fatigue. It might offer some helpful tips or insights that could help make things a little more manageable. I truly how you get some resolve and relief soon. Hang in there 🧡 -Latoya (Team Member)

      1. MS fatigue is real. So is post-holiday fatigue. And January fatigue. And work/life balance fatigue. This possibilties of the cause are pretty endless. The big question I have is are your symptoms of fatigue new or something you have experienced before? If it is new, you want to report it to your MS doctor for further evaluation. If it is recurring, have you found any ways to overcome the fatigue? I find rather than surrendering to the fatigue, if I can take a break and move a bit and step outside for some fresh air (even in the cold!) it helps to shake it off a small amount. That said, I am also a huge fan of naps to sleep through the fatigue. I hope you find something that helps you, Laura, MS.net moderator, DX '08

        1. thank you so much for replying, I've found out that the cause of the fatigue was most likely the medication I got for stiffness in my legs, they gave me lioresal and sirdalud but they didn't mention that it'd make me so tired. Well I stopped taking them and it's a lot better now.

      2. that is good to know you figured out the cause. I hope there is something else you can take to help with the spasticity. It's crazy how sometimes the 'cure' is worse than the problem. Laura

        1. I found out that I have no spasticity yet and that it's probably a orthopedic problem so I don't need to keep on taking the meds anyway 😀
