I'm not sure if I'm having a flare up

So I've been having some weird symptoms for about 5 days now. My legs are weirdly stiff all the time and if I walk for longer than 2 minutes it starts hurting. If I walk for 10 minutes I have to take breaks in between because it's so exhausting and when I'm done it feels like I've walked a marathon. Stairs are also hard. I already called my neurologist in the hospital about it and he said i need to do an MRI and he asked me if I'd be okay with having a stay in the hospital. For various reason I can't do that. I'm also so scared it's a false alarm again and that I'm making a fuss about nothing. Can anyone tell me if you've experienced these symptoms before?

  1. Hi, !

I am sorry you are experiencing some new symptoms and I think it was smart that you called your neurologist. Are you unable to do the MRI? I understand not wanting or being able to plan for a stay in the hospital, but is getting the MRI done an option?

Would your doctor be able to prescribe medications without another MRI?

I can tell you that your symptoms do sound similar to symptoms other members have shared about here, but I hesitate to say for sure that you are experiencing a full on flare. It could very well be just one of those times when new or worsening symptoms pop up and then disappear. Are you dealing with more stress right now? Could something in your life have triggered this bump up of symptoms?

Either way, I do hope you are able to get some answers as to what's going on and that these new issues go away as quickly as they came!

    1. I'll probably be able to get an MRI, it's just hard waiting thats why I was asking. And I've been dealing with a lot of stress the past two weeks.

      1. I too am sorry that you're dealing with these symptoms. It's so hard when your body isn't responding the way that you're use to it responding, and there aren't any clear answers as to why it's doing what it's doing. I agree with Erin, getting an MRI can give you good insight as to what might be going on, and hopefully your doctor is able to prescribe an outpatient exam. I agree though that the waiting for the exam - and definitely for the results - can be challenging. Stress can definitely be a trigger to so many things when it comes to our health, so as hard as it is (and trust me, I speak to myself just as much as I offer this to you) do your best to give yourself some grace during the waiting. Have patience with yourself, it sounds like you're doing everything that you can in the moment to get answers. Wishing you the best, and keep us posted if you feel comfortable doing so.

    2. Since I woke up today my legs have been feeling different again. Now any time I'm walking my legs feel so heavy that I can barely move them.

      1. - I'm sorry that you are experiencing this right now. Heavy legs can make you feel more than just physically weighed down. They can bring you down emotionally as well. I hope that you call your doctor if it continues. At the least, call the office to report what's going on. Hopefully tomorrow is better. Best, Lisa

      2. Just wanted to check in and see how your morning was today. I'm hoping things turn around for your soon! Kindly, Latoya (Team Member)

    3. Hey, thanks for checking up on me. It seriously means a lot. My legs have been hurting half of the day but I feel like it got better in the second half. I have no idea if that's what it can be like or if that means it's not from MS after all, I'll look how tomorrow morning goes.

      1. - Sorry to hear that the investigation is ongoing. But very glad to hear that you are home and it sounds like you may be doing ok (all things considered). -Lisa

      2. , I'm glad you're out of the hospital! I hope the MRI provides some helpful answers for you.
