Now I'm on Ocrevus do I need to be more careful?

I've just had my second half infusion of Ocrevus so in a couple of weeks from now my B- cells will be fully or as near as, fully depleted for the first time. My question for the collective mind is when you get to that point has anybody here changed the way they go about their day to day life to avoid picking up germs when before you wouldn't of given a certain situation a second thought, or if you haven't changed anything have you actually become ill now that your immune system isn't what it was?
I'm a little unsure how careful I need to be. Thanks for any replies.

  1. These are great questions to run by the community. Searching for someone whose experience is a little farther down the road from yours and you want to hear about it is perfectly understandable. But, if you haven't already, you really should run those questions by your healthcare team. They should be monitoring you very closely as you take the Ocrevus treatment.

Please do let us know what your team has told you, if you would be willing to share it with us. This could help someone get clear on how to better talk to their healthcare team. Others living with MS might be facing similar issues. If you could perhaps jot down questions you asked your team that others might use in talks with their own teams, this could be very useful.

Thank you so much for asking great questions! Here's hoping your immune system comes back strong and quickly so 😀 What has your healthcare team recommended?

    1. Thanks for your reply Kim. This is probably going to sound quite bad but I've not really had any conversation as such. Choices were given by my neurologist and then it was all organised via appointment letters and text messages between myself and my nurse. I was told to look up the treatment on a certain Web site and that was it. I knew what I was signing up for. On here I was after a more personal point of view, good or bad, that's what I find more comforting in a way, and real.

    2. Got it 😀

  2. Hi . I moderate in a couple of other communities as well that include people who take biologics. It seems everyone has a different approach influenced more by personal choice than by a doctor's recommendations. Some people still mask everywhere and wear gloves when grocery shopping, etc., while others find that too stressful. They want to feel "normal" again. I would think it would be wise to be careful when you can. It takes only a few seconds to wipe down a shopping cart and there are many times when it is comfortable to stand six feet away from others. If you are in a big, indoor crowd, you will probably not be the only one wearing a mask. The risk is always there. You can reduce your chances of getting sick by taking precautions, but it takes only one encounter with a germ to become ill. Ultimately, only you can decide just how cautious you want to be. I wish I had a better answer and I hope people chime in with their own behaviors and the reasoning behind that. Even though it is up to you, I am sure it helps to hear what others are doing. I hope Ocrevus helps. Wishing you the very best. - Lori (Team Member)
