Walking

Just diagnosed today not been able to walk for 3 months without a zimmer frame. Will I be able to walk again

  1. What is a Zimmer frame? I'm having serious mobility issues and would love some suggestions.

    1. Zimmerframe , you can get from physiotherapist, not at all suitable for people with stairs but enables you to get around on the flat within your home

      1. Hi, ! A zimmer frame is a walker, basically. The Zimmer name just comes from company based in Indiana (Zimmer Holdings) that took the basic walking frame style and tweaked it. Sometimes, people specify that a Zimmer frame is a walker with four stationary legs (no wheels), but the term Zimmer can also just mean any style of walker to some folks.

So, long story not short at all, Zimmer frame is just another term for a walker.

I hope that helps! And, I hope you are able to get a walking aid that works best for you and your needs.

        1. Hi, !

You may very well be able to walk again without a walker, but you may not. It really depends on a variety of factors and it would be careless of me to make any predictions. It can depend on what type of MS you have been diagnosed and whether any medications you have been started on for your MS begin to work. It can be some trial and error to find the right medication for you, so don't stress if you don't notice any improvements right away.

Whether you walk with or without a walking aid, please know you don't face this alone. We have a large, diverse community here that knows what it's like to live with all the challenges of MS.
