When MRI isn't an option
I have had multiple cervical fusions since 2006. I've hardware on the front of my neck from C4-C7 and in the back of my neck from C2-T2. I've had MRIs with the hardware in my neck, BUT, there doesn't seem to be much that can be seen because the hardware, while not magnetic, really disturbs the images. I have had a clear Brain MRI recently, so I worry that if I were to have lesions on my cervical spinal cord, that no doctor would be able to see them.
Has anyone had an experience similar to this? If so, could you perhaps offer advice on the kind of doctor I should see?
Hi psutoad! I am sorry MRIs may not be an option for you. This would definitely be something to discuss with your physician at your next appointment. While MRIs are a very helpful part of the diagnostic protocol, other tests are used to measure disease progression and control. Your physician may be able to offer you referrals to specialists or even MRI specialists that have experience dealing with more challenging situations, such as yours.
