Chronic lightheadedness

I'm wondering if any other members are dealing with this too. It's not specifically vertigo dizziness for me (at least not like the benign positional vertigo I've experienced in past). Been trying to puzzle out if this is specifically MS related or no.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, mates 🤔

  1. Hi, ! I am sorry you are dealing with chronic lightheadedness. Have you discussed this issue with your doctor? It could be caused by any number of things and may or may not be related to your MS. Lightheadedness can be a sign of low blood pressure, dehydration, ear infections, illness, and many other issues, so it's a good idea to get your doctor's thoughts on what you are experiencing. I do hope you get some answers and can get this particular issue under control! Best, Erin, MultipleSclerosis.net Team Member.

    1. , thanks for your thoughtful reply. Yeah, being a 'dizzy bint' sucks, but it seems to be my 'normal'. My neuro & MS nurses have known about it for yrs. Sadly, my GP just retired, and I'm still seeking a new one. On the upside, my newish physiatrist seems pretty proactive on my behalf. We've been trying to narrow down some causes & solutions. He's referring me for Physiotherapy to aid with my balance issues. Fingers crossed Sept might yield more answers.

    2. Hi @jenniem! I hope physiotherapy helps. It is amazing what they can do. Thinking of you! - Lori (Team Member)

  2. I want to echo what Erin has said, I have had periods of dizziness that I thought were MS, and in some cases, they might have been, but in other cases, they were ear issues or dehydration (usually accompanied by tinnitus, which is definitely an MS thing). Sometimes I just think to myself, what does it matter what causes it? I just need some relief! I hope you are able to find some for yourself... you are not alone. 1. , I appreciate your good advice. So much potential causal junk to sift through when we deal with dizziness problems isn't there? Hard at times to separate my 23yr in "MS monster" from the mess...whether as the cause, or merely an easy "usual suspect" scapegoat 😏 FWIW, I do know I've always had low-ish, but but not alarming blood pressure. And yes, have been trying to keep well hydrated (and cool ). The physiatrist I mentioned in the response to Erin has spoken a bit about autonomic dysfunction with MS in relation to balance deficits and dizziness. Will see if that dialogue with him will be useful going forward. In the meantime, it's lovely to feel the camaraderie from you and others here, Tamara.

    2. glad I could help in some small way! FWIW I had a random dizzy spell this morning, who even knows where it came from? Sigh. Best, Tamara, MultipleSclerosis.net community advocate

  3. Oh, Tamara, sorry to hear that😒. Hope you're not dealing with forest fire smoke as well, like we are here in BC. One more ingredient to try to separate from the MS dizzy stew. Fingers crossed 🤞 your dizzy spell is gone and stays that way!
