Chronic urticaria with MS pseudoflares

I have been going through a very stressful time lately (my husband left me suddenly for another woman), and I developed a urticarial rash during a pseudoflare. However, it didn't go away within a couple days, it stayed for over six weeks. It would pop up every morning and then migrate to a different location. My dermatologist says it's chronic urticaria and it's likely autoimmune, but she doesn't think it's related to MS (likely both the pseudoflare and rash were secondary to stress). Does anyone else get this? She said that she's seen it in people who have anti-thyroid antibodies or lupus, so I'm starting to get nervous that I have more than just MS since Graves and lupus also run in my family.

  1. , I'm sorry that you've been going through such a stressful time. Your husband leaving is an enormously stressful life event. Since your dermatologist suspects that the chronic urticaria is likely autoimmune, has she referred you to another specialist? Perhaps an immunologist and/or rheumatologist could do a good workup to see what the underlying cause might be. I understand the fear of developing another condition besides MS. (I have both MS and RA.) Sometimes it can be difficult to manage both, but sometimes it really isn't. But the not-knowing is the tough part. Please know that we are here to support you if you pursue more testing and another opinion.
    Best wishes, Lisa
