Eye pain or migraine

Hello there! I am new to this forum, but diagnosed in 2020 with RRMS. Since then I’ve been on a couple different medications (copaxone, now rebif). However I am still experiencing things that I’m not sure about…

My mom who also has MS, had the first symptom of optic neuritis. This isn’t something I’ve experienced thus far, but for the last week and a half my right eye has been very painful.

The pain is behind the eye, and when I move it. It hurts to touch, when I put a cold pack on it my vision went blurry. The left eye is unaffected. I thought it may be a migraine but I don’t get migraines.. so I’m not sure. I’m always nervous to bug my neuro although I know that’s her job, and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this pain before?

  1. , first off, I am sorry you are dealing with this new symptom. Second, I don't think you should worry about talking to your neuro. It's best for you and for her if she is aware of all your symptoms. And, while eye issues can definitely be related to MS, it's important to get new symptoms checked out, just to be safe. And, if something else is causing the eye pain and vision issues, that needs to be addressed. All kinds of health issues can cause eye problems. Also, here's some basic information on eye issues and MS -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/symptoms/vision-problems. I do hope you also get some helpful feedback from other community members that have dealt with eye pain and vision issues. And again, don't be worried about talking to your neuro about this. 1. Hi , I've not experienced eye pain (my vision mostly just gets blurry), but I do experience pain in many other areas. Pain and MS can go hand in hand. That said, eye pain could be MS but it could be a number of other things too. You should definitely report it to your doctor and maybe even make an appointment to see them. Don't be nervous to bug them, you're right, it's their job! But aside from being their job, they'd much rather you mentioned something earlier and saw you earlier than for you to wait. Knowing something sooner rather than later makes their job much easier! Best of luck and, if you don't mind, let us know how it goes!
