First Neurology appointment.

I have not yet been diagnosed yet and I have a Neurology appointment this monday 19th. I think I have had signs since I was 19 and Im now 43. Up until 43 I have been diagnosed with irregular periods, depression, mental health issues, tremor, headaches, ibs, general aches and pains, strange gait, deterioration of eye sight and chronic Fatigue. Then the other day I went into A and E as a paramedic was worried I might be having a stroke. I have temple pain , numbness in cheek, pain and tingling in arm and foot pluus both feet are always either freezing or burning, Diverticulitis, twitching eye and brain fog all on left side. Finally I get smelling hallutinations like burning smell. I sometimes get in my car and can drive safely but forget where im going. I am open minded but could this all equal MS?

  1. Hi @scruffy78. I am sure it has been stressful, waiting for that appointment. Any of those symptoms could point to MS, but they could also point to another health condition entirely. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know whether you might have MS without an MRI, and that is usually confirmed with a lumbar puncture. Here is an article about health conditions that mimic MS and should be ruled out before making a diagnosis: https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/ruling-out-other-health-conditions. Here is an article about the diagnostic process for MS: https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis. You might find it helpful to read though before your appointment. I wish had more answers for you. I know waiting is hard. The best thing you can do right now is to keep busy so you don't think about it so much. The 19th will be here before you know it. I hope this helps. Keep us posted if you feel comfortable doing so. Best wishes! - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi, I’m sorry you’re going through this, especially with little children. Your symptoms are very similar to mine and I also had the same report from my MRI. I’ve been struggling for an answer for 15 years and my medical file reads like a list of autoimmune syndromes. It’s hard to deal with, frustrating to not know for sure and not have the advantage of proper treatment. I hope you get an answer quickly so you can enjoy your kids! Twins-lucky you!
