Ocrevus

I am a MS nurse, and so many patients come to see us because their neurologists are far too often just placing them on Ocrevus due to the convenience. However, NO ONE ever says that Ocrevus is basically chemo, which is NOT ideal especially during a pandemic. Young, otherwise healthy patients have more harm done to them on Ocrevus, rather than other drugs. Even JCV Ab+ patients can STILL use other medications, such as Tysabri, which is the most robust, fastest resulting drug. Please do your due diligence and ask your physicians millions of questions to understand their thinking. Many doctors see patients as another number, rather than an individual case.

  1. Hi @nurseEM
Thanks for posting about Ocrevus. It's certainly a popular drug these days and offers great appeal because it's only delivered twice a year once started. I know many who take it and have found it to be helpful. But it's not perfect, as you point out, and the pandemic consideration is definitely worth noting. I do think that doctors are fatigued and forget that DMTs are not a one-and-done scenario for many, if not most, patients. It doesn't help that Ocrevus has a highly visible ad campaign out right now, too. That puts it top of mind and for those patients who do not ask questions, may be a bit of a surprise if it's their first choice and they don't know that it's chemo with side effects. I appreciate you speaking up! Best, Tamara, multiplesclerosis.net community advocate
