Is it possible for symptoms of MS to never stop?

I’m curious if it’s normal to have a flare up/exacerbation and it never stops? I was diagnosed with RRMS 12 years ago then undiagnosed three years ago. Then March of 2017 I got the flu and two weeks later started having tremors, muscle spasms, stiffness/spasticity in legs and an ungodly painful squeeze around my abdomen that goes to my spine. I also have the squeezing on my neck. I have heavy legs and numbness.

This NEVER goes away I have these symptoms every day. I am in the process of MRI’s and being diagnosed. I can’t get any treatment other than medicine for the symptoms which really don’t help much. My question is it normal for these symptoms to never stop in MS? Because from what I’ve read most of time the flare up stops and none of my symptoms in over a year has not stopped.

  1. Hi aficklin! I am so sorry you are not getting a break from MS symptoms! How challenging! While I cannot provide medical advice or diagnosis, I will say that one of the hallmarks of RRMS is at least some periods of "remission" or a noticeable lack of symptoms. Other forms of MS have more pronounced, non-stop symptoms. While I am sure you have done tons of reading on this topic, I wanted to link you to a quick description of various forms of MS -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/what-are-the-differences-between-rrms-spms-and-ppms/.

If possible, don't hesitate to seek a second opinion on your condition. Whatever you are dealing with deserves to be diagnosed and properly treated. Good luck getting answers and please feel free to update us on your situation, should you feel comfortable doing so.
