Possible symptoms (non-diagnosed)

Hi guys.

Every summer, I go through a few months of lethargy when it gets very hot/humid. This started around age 20 for me. I am now 30. I've noticed that it affects me cognitively as well. Focus is more difficult. The hot weather makes me very uncomfortable physically and that bleeds into my mental state.

A more recent thing I've been experiencing is muscle tension that is usually more pronounced on the right side of my body (specifically my neck and shoulder). Sometimes I take ibuprofen for this as it can be painful. I also have a tingling pins + needles feeling in my right foot. While the weather cooling down has helped me a bit, this tension and tingling has been persistent.

I also deal with a ton of itchiness.

I know you guys aren't MD's and can't really help me figure out exactly what's going on. I'd just appreciate any kind of input you guys may have to help me moving forward.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the MS community. You will find lots of supportive people and great information here. I am sure you are frustrated and maybe somewhat nervous about your symptoms and what they might mean. Have you talked with your doctor about your symptoms? You do share some symptoms with MS, but there are many other health conditions that mimic MS and should be ruled out. Here is an article that lists them: https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/ruling-out-other-health-conditions. The best place to start is with your primary care doctor. Bring notes about your symptoms and any potential triggers (like heat) to your appointment because you might forget what you intended to say once you get in the exam room. Your doctor will probably start with some blood tests to rule out nutritional deficiencies and other potential causes. If everything else is ruled out, that's when your doctor might refer to you to a neurologist, who will evaluate you for MS. I hope this helps and that you get answers and relief. Keep us posted if you feel comfortable doing so. Best of all wishes! - Lori (Team Member)
