Progression without lesions

Hi, I am experiencing new symptoms- skin burning, buzzing, and a heavy, cold feeling in my throat and chest. I had a
MRI last week and received a letter from my Neurologist saying no change in MRI from last year and to watch and wait. How does this work? I still have the symptoms but no evidence. I was Relapsing/remitting but does this mean my MS is changing? I’m feeling scared and anxious… any ideas please greatfully accepted 🤗

  1. Hi . My heart goes out to you. There are so many unknowns with this disease that it is hard not to be nervous and scared when changes come about. MRIs don't always show subtle changes that might be creating new symptoms. It doesn't necessarily mean your MS is changing, but it might still be the start of a flare, regardless of the test results. Here is an article from one of our advocates about MRIs that might interest you: https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/mri-problem. Did your doctor rule out potential cardiac issues and offer any treatment or therapies that might help? Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thanks Lori, no cardiac issues thank goodness!! The symptoms spread from my feet up - reminds me of the Matrix when Neo gets that black substance spread all over the outside and then goes down his throat 😂 I’m waiting for some clarification from my Neurologist- hopefully I’ll hear something today 🤞🤞

      1. I hope you hear back soon, . Keep us posted if you feel comfortable doing so. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. Lori Foster I have had a huge number of symptom progressions and no more lesions show on the MRIs for the last two years. My regular doctor always defers to my neurologist. My MS neurologist doesn’t really ask about or listen to my symptoms. I am getting a new MS neurologist. Period.

      1. Hi . I am glad you are finding someone new. You need and deserve a doctor who is a true partner in your care. If you haven't found a new neurologist already, The National MS Society has a tool that can help. Here is a link: https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Resources-Support/Find-Doctors-Resources. Wishing you the very best! - Lori (Team Member)
