progressive MS

How do you know if you have transferred from RRMS to secondary progressive?

  1. Hi . Here is a wonderful article about SPMS that might answer some of your questions: https://multiplesclerosis.net/what-is-ms/secondary-progressive. Do you think you might be moving into SPMS? I hope this helps. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. For me, after having MS For 23 years, I have stopped having obvious relapses but continuing (slowly) disability. 2 years ago, I noticed that I hadn't really had any relapses but I was feeling like things were progressing. My Neuro agrees that I've moved to SPMS. MRI's show no new lesions, but more shrinking and black holes. I now have an electric chair for shopping as I become too fatigued and have a lot of pain with it. My memory is worse. I have greater reactions to heat than before (and it was debilitating then) and now cold affects me in a painful way along with the heat.

      1. I wish you didn't have to endure so much pain and discomfort, . Is your neurologist good about addressing your symptoms? Thinking of you and sending the best of all wishes your way. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. Lori Foster. He really isn't a good Neuro in managing symptoms and pain only wants to push disease modifying drugs, which I refuse. I'm stuck with him for now as he's the only one who takes my insurance for now.

      1. I am sorry to hear that your neurologist isn't helping to manage your symptoms. It has got to be extremely frustrating. I am going through a similar situation with my doctor. I have looked for another doctor but the other doctors I have found were either not taking insurance or not accepting new patients. She really is my only option right now but I keep looking with no success so far. You deserve better than the care he is currently providing you. It is definitely discouraging when a doctor is not meeting your needs and you're stick in that situation. Have you tried calling your insurance to see which doctors are in your network? You also should be able to go on the insurances portal to find this information if you haven't already. I hope you are able to find someone soon who has a treatment plan that fits you and a doctor that actively listens!
