Scheduling Appointments for Early Morning

This past year my variety of MS has moved from relapsing-remitting to secondary progression. SS put me in their "disabled" category 10 months ago.
I try to schedule appointments as early in the morning when the day is coolest, because that's when I will likely have the most energy and least level of cognitive issues. And I mean all appointments: drs., dentist, veterinarian, hair stylist, and grocery deliveries.
Tomorrow I will have my first vision therapy appointment at 10am. Except for tomorrow, morning appointments there will not be available until December. So, they have me booked for 1pm, once a week, for several months. If another morning patient cancels, they will fit me in there. That's okay for me, but I think that level of flexibility is a lot to ask the retired friend who drives me.
I'm thinking of insisting on morning appts., because being out in the afternoon during the summer will probably trigger increased symptoms for the following couple of days. May I have your thoughts on this? What would you do?

  1. Hi , I absolutely understand trying to do morning appointments. I do the same thing, and I imagine many of us do. Not only is it cooler, it's definitely when I have the most energy. I tend to be very worn down by the afternoon and much more confused as well. It's a double-edged sword I guess, afternoon appointments might be tough, but maybe the therapy would be worth it. I think it's at least worth trying out going to one of the afternoon appointments to see how it goes. Problems with MS can vary so much that I think we need to really try something out before we know. In the meantime, politely keep reminding them about morning appointments and how important they are for you and hopefully more will be available. Good luck!

    1. Thank you, Devin. I read your response moments before being called into the therapist's office. I'm quite worn out and in need of a rest after the first session. I will give the 1:00 appt in 2 weeks a try as you suggested. The therapist suggested that there may be a benefit to showing up not at my strongest - give him a better look at my visual weaknesses. I don't think he can comprehend how I might feel for a couple of days after that session. But I know from experience, so I will hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Thanks for helping me think this through.
