Uhtoff syndrome as initial symptoms??

Hello,

Im french so please be Indulgent with my English 😀
Im 34 yrs old woman..it seems I have multiple symptoms that make me think of MS…especially Uhtoff syndrome.

Everything started one year ago after a vigorous exercise (dance). When I was back home I started to have blind spots in my right eye vision, it was blurry as well I couldnt read the hour on my phone. Then I started to have diplopia and visual hallucination (circles turning in my peripheric vision). They sent me to emergency service in order to eliminate a stroke. I had a MRI which came back normal.

Later I noticed I had vertigo/dizziness especially after my dance classes. This summer we had very hot temperatures and I noticed my legs were going easily jelly and not very responsive.
Once I stayed one afternoon at the beach, when I went back home I fell a bit asleep and woke up 40mn later in a very bad condition, I had severe vertigo and needed to get support on the wall to walk..I had to vomit I guess because of vertigo I was really nauseous. My right eye was very blurry.
Another day my friend let her car under the sun it was really hot we drove like 5mn to go to a shop and when I arrived inside after 5-10mn my legs went jelly and it was difficult’for me to walk.

I noticed its even worse when There is heat and humidity.
i often have minor’symptoms after hot showers as well.

Lately its getting worse and worse…I practice different dances and I notice its becoming really challenging. After vigorous exercises I even have sometimes difficulties breathing normally, it seems my respiratory cycle is going slower and if Im laying down its challenging.

Lately I was at salsa, it was really hot in the room..after 30mn I started to have dizziness, confusion and a scary new thing : someone asked me a question and I couldnt answer properly..I had slurred speech. I was scared at hell inside. Couldnt articulate and slower speech.

I have an MRI soon I Hope we ll see something this time…

What do you think ?? Is it common to have Uhtoff syndrome as first manifestation of MS? Im really anxious about all this.

  1. , hello and welcome! First off, your English is great!

Second, we cannot provide medical diagnosis, for your safety. What I can say is that you are definitely experiencing symptoms that *could be* MS, or a different health condition. Also, Uhtoff syndrome can be an indication of MS. Getting an MRI will be a good way to get a firm diagnosis. You did mention that an earlier MRI was clear, so, your doctors may want to look at other conditions that can mimic MS symptoms. You can read about those conditions here -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/ruling-out-other-health-conditions. Hopefully, your next MRI will give your doctors some idea as to what is going on. Do you have to wait long to get that next MRI?

I know experiencing these symptoms can be very scary, especially if the symptoms continue to worsen. Please know you're not alone in this and we are happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing and how your MRI goes, if you feel comfortable doing so.

    1. Way back, I loved hot baths. One day it caused my entire body to refuse to move. That was before my official MS diagnosis. Since I came from South Carolina, I could no longer handle the heat, I still can't. I moved to Alberta, Canada, and that excessive heat is rarely here. Heat and over heating causes many of us to reevaluate our choices. We can get bands filled with some kind of gel that I keep in the freezer for those hot days. They help. Please know, you are not alone in this. Judy Varley

      1. @helix6 please know you are not alone in having heat issues. I moved from South Carolina to Alberta Canada to get away from hot and humid temperatures. We have few hot days, but I get up in the morning and do whatever I need to do and park it in my lift chair until evening when the temperatures return to more tolerable levels. Many of us have heat issues for sure. We care. Our pharmacy has bands to wear that are filled with some-kind of gel and I keep them in my freezer for those few hot days here in Okotoks, Alberta. 1. , Welcome. It's good to hear that you are scheduled for an MRI soon. That should hopefully provide some clues as to what is going on. With Uhthoff's syndrome would exaggerate symptoms that you likely have from previous (if even unnoticed) nerve damage. I hope that you find some answers some. Keep us updated. We are here for you!
