Weight gain

Since I have been diagnosed in 2020 I have gain at least 20 pounds and have tried almost everything to loss weight but I haven’t loss any and all my doctors does is tell me that I am young and I can do but I don’t think that just doing the basics (eating right and working out) is going to help. Has anyone tried weight loss medicine or found something else to work

  1. Let me begin by saying that I'm glad you asked the community about this. Knowing that you want to get your weight under control before it gets out of control is so important for your health and well-being. I’m sorry you have been trying to lose weight and being unsuccessful. The doctors gave you general good advice about following a healthy diet and exercise, but it’s easier said than done and you need specific suggestions. Plus, there are other things that could have caused your weight gain since your diagnosis, such as new medications, steroids, or less activity because of too many “bad days” or fatigue. Here is a link to some of our community articles about gaining and losing weight. https://multiplesclerosis.net/search?s=how%20to%20lose%20weight I’m sure many others will chime in on this post with suggestions for you. As with so many other things, it may end up being a lot of trial and error. If you need some “discipline” to help you with your goals, there are things like Jenny Craig and WeightWatchers. I was in your position 30 years ago--when I quit smoking, I gained almost twenty lbs. Learning how/what to eat while being monitored helped immensely. You can and will do this! 1. Thanks for you response and advice

      1. , Debbie shared some great suggestions, so I can't really add much except to tell you that you are definitely not alone when it comes to dealing with weight issues. I think you're doing all the right things! Have you checked with your physician to see if any medications you are on may be behind the weight gain? Have you found that your metabolism or ability to exercise has been affected since your MS diagnosis? Best, Erin, MultipleSclerosis.net Team Member.

        1. Hi . One autoimmune disease can often trigger another, so it is very possible that your thyroid has started acting up since your MS diagnosis. It is definitely worth pursuing just in case. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

        2. I believe that I’ve been tested for that because it run in the family but it’s probably time to get tested again
