Do doctors accept Aetna, Medicaid/Medicare and can I take different medications?

Does any doctor accept Aetna, Medicaid/Medicare insurance and can you take different medications having MS?

  1. Hi Tiffany,

Sometimes it takes a lot of research to find out what doctors can which insurance and which doctors an insurance company has in their network. Lots of phone calls to offices. It can be challenging to find doctors who take Medicaid, unfortunately. The National MS Society may have a list of doctors in your area who are known to take Medicaid/Medicare. Call them at 1-800-344-4867.

As far as medications for MS, there are many choices. But as you may guess not every choice is covered by every insurance company. More phone calls to find out what is covered by your company, unless they have an online portal where you can do the search yourself.

If you do find an MS specialist in your area (search here https://www.mscare.org/search/custom.asp?id=881 and here https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Resources-Support/Find-Doctors-Resources ), that doctor may be able to go to bat for you with the insurance company if there is a specific medication recommended that isn't covered by your insurance company.

Here is a list of disease-modifying therapies for MS - https://multiplesclerosis.net/treatment/managing-the-disease-progression/

    Good luck.

    Best wishes, Lisa
