Are MS pains typically off and on throughout the day during a relapse?

New to MS with recent diagnosis. Tonight I’m having sharp pains off and on on my left pointer finger tip (palm side). Yes very specific, but that’s just how direct the pain is. Are MS pains normally off and on throughout the day during relapse? I have constant discomforts and pains, but one hour it’s my legs, another it’s my arms, etc.

  1. Hi Kelikei! Regardless of whether you are in a relapse or simply having a temporary worsening of symptoms, I will say that yes, pain can go off and on (I actually get sudden sharp pains often, so I have first hand experience with this). Even other symptoms, like numbness, can vary in intensity So I wouldn't worry about it, but I would definitely make a note of it to your doctor. With that, try to pay attention to the conditions when the sharp pain arises (is it warmer than normal? are you extra stressed? etc)

    1. Thank you.

So thankful for this community as I’m sure questions will arise day to day and between doctor appointments it’s good to know I’m not alone.
