Concerns and Anxiety Over Possible MS Symptoms

Hi all,
I'm a 26 year old female. I'm a Physician Assistant, so sometimes I think I know too much and then freak out for no reason. Anyways, this year I had an abnormal paper, biopsies and then a LEEP. Shortly after that, I got my first UTI. I have had 3 more since then. Two of which I'm pretty sure have gone to my kidneys but thankfully caught early. In between my current UTI and my last (about a month ago), I continued with urinary leakage all the time. I also had problems feeling like I wasn't emptying my bladder completely, having to actually push really hard to urinate and always feeling a pressure in my bladder. My urinalysis was normal in between with a negative culture so I know it was not a continued infection. I don't think it's interstitial cystitis either because there's no pain with my bladder being full and no where do I see that it's supposed to cause leakage. I've had a few episodes of tingling in my left arm that lasted a few days. I have my first appointment with gyn tomorrow (because urology was booked out so far). I think what I have is detrusor underactivity, which I've read can be caused my neurologic condition like MS. did anyone have this as signs of MS? Am I crazy for being worried about it?? I appreciate any help and support.

  1. Hi . You are not crazy for being worried. I am sure you have learned from your own patients that instinct is a valuable thing. It can helps us find what is wrong even when we don't have access to all the evidence. All of those things could be signs of MS, but they could also be indicative of other health conditions. The only way to know for sure is to advocate for yourself and insist on further testing. Here is an article about the diagnostic process for MS that might interest you: https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis. I hope you are able to get a referral to a neurologist soon and get an MRI. If it is MS, there are treatments that can help. If it's not, maybe it will put your mind at ease while you search for more answers. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
