Nutrition and MS

Do you believe nutrition plays a role in managing Multiple Sclerosis? Why or why not? If so, how has it impacted your journey?

Have you made any changes to your diet to help with your MS, and if so, what adjustments have worked for you?

Whether you've tried specific diets, added certain foods, or taken a different approach, we’d love to hear your experiences and insights!

  1. I believe diet has a big factor on my health, I've had MS for 30 plus years now

    1. ,
It sounds like you've learned a lot, not only from your research but also from your personal experience (and perhaps trial and error).
It's pretty incredible how much these dietary adjustments can make a difference. Thanks so much for sharing, Doreen (Team Member)

Good for you! That is something I am trying to stick to in the new year. However, I find it is not easy.

  2. Everything that is recomended I consume has already been my diet for years prior to my diagnosis. I do recomend testing everything recommended to see if it helps you

    1. It’s awesome that your diet already aligns with so many of the recommendations—sounds like you’ve been on the right track for years! I totally agree with you, though. It’s really important to test things out and see what works for you personally. Everyone’s experience with MS is different, so it’s all about finding what helps. Have you noticed any changes since your diagnosis with your choice of diet, or do you feel like your diet has just helped you stay in a good place? -Latoya (Team Member)

  3. I’m on the Mediterranean diet. It’s wonderful!

    1. And ohhhh, so very delicious too!!! What are some of your favorites? Most anything stemming from Greek or Italian cuisine makes me happy! Do you cook? I’m thrilled you’re enjoying the Mediterranean way of eating and that it’s an agreeable option for you!

  4. Certainly diet influences our health specifically as well as overall. I believe the greatest help to our nutrition is transitioning to organic foods vs conventionally grown foods, eating a whole food plant based diet, eliminating sugar, diary, and gluten. Gluten and meat products have been by far the hardest for me to totally eliminate from my diet, still working on total elimination from my diet.

    1. I totally agree—diet plays such a huge role in our health and overall well-being. I can see how cutting out gluten and dairy would be tough, though, especially since they’re in so many things! And being from the Dairyland State (Wisconsin), I’d definitely struggle with this too. It’s awesome that you’re working on making changes, I can imagine it’s a big transition. Have you tried any alternatives like grass-fed meat or plant-based substitutes for gluten and dairy yet? -Latoya (Team Member)
