Relief for nighttime muscle spasms in legs/feet

I am now having spasms in the lower leg and instep of both feet. I do exercise a lot.
I've taken med marijuana at night but now that is not working. Has baclofen been helpful for this? I tired baclofen 6 months ago(taking 5 mg in the AM) but had 2 major urinary incontinence incidents shortly after starting it?
what's been your experience with relief from nighttime spasms?

  1. , I am sorry you have been dealing with muscle spasms. I know those are no fun. Have you talked to your doctor about the spasms since you tried baclofen? Since frequent urination is a potential side effect of baclofen, I can see why it might not be a good fit for you.

I know some of our community members have dealt with nighttime muscle spasms and restless legs and I hope they see your post and chime in here. There are a number of tips and tricks you may try, but you may want to check with your physician first, just to be safe. I hope this helps and that you are able to get some better sleep very soon!

    1. Thanks for the references. I have a sleep study scheduled in august and a telehealth visit with my CNP this week. So far, I have not had any more spasms at night. I think it might be triggered by alcohol (1-2 glasses wine on occasion) in early evening?? Who knows? I do sleep well when the spasm ends but do not like the pain! My spasms last maybe 10 minutes and I do use a plug in massager on the site and that seems to quell the pain right away, but not eliminate it.

      1. , it sounds like you have some good strategies in place for managing the spasms! My husband has had sleep studies (not for MS) and they have been so helpful. He had a hard time sleeping well in a new place, so it was hard to get enough data on his sleep habits. I hope you have better luck in that regard.

I hope you get some clear answers AND possible remedies. No one wants to be woke up by pain and spasms! Ugh!
