Hi, !
First, I am so sorry you are dealing with these issues. Second, I am very glad you are seeing a neurologist about the symptoms you are experiencing. The symptoms you are dealing with sound serious and should be addressed. And please don't panic that I wrote "sounds serious". I would say that about any health issues a person experiences that have no explanation and negatively impact your life. While vision problems and odd sensations and pains (like electric shocks and zings) can be symptoms of MS, they can also be symptoms of any number of health conditions. That's why seeing a neurologist is a good idea! A doctor can run all kinds of tests to rule out or diagnose MS. Here are some of the conditions that doctors may rule out when testing for MS -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/ruling-out-other-health-conditions. Also, just to help you be prepared, here's some information on the tests a doctor will want to run to rule out or diagnose MS -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/tools-your-doctor-will-use-to-make-a-diagnosis . Keep in mind that some doctors will not run all of these tests, nor are all of them required (though an MRI is a very helpful diagnostic tool).
Also, I wanted to share one member's diagnosis story, as she experienced significant vision issues before her diagnosis -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/stories/mystery-solved. It's not all that unusual to experience all manner of vision issues with MS. In fact, some of our members have been tentatively diagnosed (or referred to a neurologist) after their eye doctor's notice something fishy during an eye exam.
As far as the electric shock sensations? Many members of this community have described experiencing sensations like this, so you are not alone in this!
Please keep us posted on how your appointment with the neurologist goes, if you feel comfortable doing so.
Best, Erin, Team Member.
