Another diagnosis

I’m feeling very overwhelmed at this point. I’m 38 yrs old living with not only MS, but neuropathy, vitamin D deficiency, memory loss of unknown cause, and today also told I have carpal tunnel, which adds braces for my hands (not just one, but both) how do you deal with new changes to your health? I realize it could be worse but I’m feeling so overwhelmed

  1. Good grief! How am I just now seeing your post, ?? My apologies for not seeing this earlier.

First, it is very normal to feel overwhelmed when it comes to health issues, especially when it seems to be a steady drip (or a tsunami) or ongoing diagnoses and new problems.

I think it's good to acknowledge those feelings of being overwhelmed and to even acknowledge that this whole situation; well, it sucks. And then you can go from there and say, "Ok. Now what do I do with this?"

As a Mom, you are already well experienced at moving forward when the game plan gets changed up at the last minute. And I bet you're good at making do with whatever is thrown your way. So, you can apply those skills to this situation. Is it easy? Not always. Is it fun? No. But you CAN do this.

I know it's probably not easy, but if you can find time to just focus on yourself, even if it's just ten minutes, that can help you breathe and center yourself and just take a moment to focus on you and your needs. Listen to a favorite song (or two) alone in the car. Take a quick walk (or nap 😉 ). Buy a candle in a scent you love and burn it while you're in the shower or bath. Just anything that can help you pause and breathe. It won't change your diagnoses, but it can help you check in with your body and your mind and catch your breath.

Please know you're not alone in this, even when it feels that way.

    1. Thank you

      1. If there's one thing I know, it is the truth that a single mother always finds a way to make it through whatever it is that's going on. It's honestly our superpower. And when it comes to dealing with new changes, especially to your health, it's important to take things one step at a time. Focus on small, manageable goals and give yourself permission to rest and take breaks when you need them. Lean on your support system, whether it's friends, family, or a healthcare team, and don't hesitate to ask for help. Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself as you navigate these challenges. You're doing the best you can, and that's enough! Wishing you all the best, Latoya (Team Member)
