Having one sided numbness today. I am scared.

I have been through multiple autoimmune diseases and I think I may have MS. I don’t have any weakness but my leg felt heavy. It hasn’t effected my face. I am honestly scared and don’t know how to feel. I am completely sadden that yet again I claim another tragedy with being autoimmune. This never ends with me. I am become more crippled by the minute. I’m only 22 and male and I never thought I would have MS but yet I somehow may have defied the odds against my will.

I just can’t believe after years of fearing I may have Jxned myself after waking up with left sided numbness with my legs and arms and feet being numb. It’s unreal. This can’t be real. This has to be something else. I was under so much stress before dealing with other health issues of dealing with other autoimmune issues and now this. Just why

  1. I will let our MS moderators respond tomorrow, hoping they can help you think through these symptoms and what you may need. But I wanted to reach out tonight because I can tell you are going through so much right now. It's so much stress, like you said, and to not have answers yet is even harder. I hope this community can be a place of support, and I also emailed you some other resources. Take care, Liz (Team Member)

    1. I hope this could all just somehow be stress because the odds of somehow having ankle spondylitis psoriatic arthritis AND now MS all at the age of 22 as a male are so unbelievably rare it could just not be possible. Maybe it’s a spinal issue or something. It’s going to be extremely challenging having to wait for my appointment to meet up with my neurologist while having to deal with this one sided numbness nerve pain in which I hope doesn’t turn into anything worse or other MS adjacent symptoms start coming up.

All I know is that before all this I was already going through so much stress dealing with other autoimmune health issues I was hoping to get fix till this just had to come along and postpone that.. it’s been a nightmare and I’m only 22

  2. Hi , good morning. I wanted to follow up on some of the symptoms you mentioned. I know you've been dealing with this for a long time. Have you found a health care provider you can open up to? Finding the right provider who will really listen can sometimes make a difference. - Liz (Team Member)

  3. Hi , I wanted to check in on you and see how you are feeling this morning. You have been through a lot, and I can understand why you would feel scared about having numbness on one side of your body. You mentioned you have an appointment with your neurologist; when is it scheduled for? If you haven't already this morning, I would call them to let them know about this new symptom. They may be able to get you in sooner or offer an alternative way to get in faster. If you don't mind sharing, do you live alone, or do you have someone there with you to help? There could be many reasons you are experiencing numbness. Stress can affect us mentally and physically in so many ways. I wanted to share a story from one of our members. Numbness can feel different for everyone, since we are all unique. I am sharing this so you can hear what it feels like for him and what triggers it: https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/numbness. Ethan, we are here to support you. Please keep us posted on how you are today. Wishing you all the best. We are thinking of you. Jill (Team Member)

    1. if you have a herniated disc and you are also lifting at work, it can absolutely cause numbness and muscle weakness. I can understand why you are wary, but do you have an orthopedist, pain management specialist, or even your primary care physician that you can see? If you are having a hard time getting in to see your neurologist, your other healthcare professionals should be able to help. I would definitely call them and see if you can get in soon so you can get answers and put your mind at ease. The unknown is frightening; you deserve to know what is going on. Please reach out to your medical team and see if they have a cancellation list you can get on. Keep us posted. Jill (Team Member)
