How did you get diagnosed?

Hi. I have been struggling with short term memory loss for ten years.Than I started with cognitive problems, etc..At this time I still have no diagnosis The problems I am now having is urinary retention, diagnosed. I have also been having a couple of bouts of bowel incontinence x2 in the last week. Any advice on getting an mri. My neurological told me I was just depressed. WHAT?!?!? I do have underlying anxiety and depression. I've been medicated since I was 22 and I'm now 52. I've never felt this way. Starting to think it's hopeless. Anyone in the Philly know of a good ms doc or neurologist who would take me on and actually help me get a diagnosis.

  1. I have SO many symptoms of ms....I'm very off balance, swallowing problems. After the testing, my doctor said there is nothing wrong with it structurally. He claims that my problems are all coming from my brain.Last week my calfs suddenly were extremely painful to walk. That happened for three days, then it went away.
I get confused easily. Now my body all the sudden my whole body is unable to regulate;ate my temp. I'll be fine one minute, then I feel fine . Then hellfire kept running through my body. It can go one for hours sometimes.I have night sweats and cold sweats during the day.been having a hard time communicating effectively.

Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated!

    1. Wow, I’m so sorry you’re going through all of this. That sounds incredibly overwhelming especially when it feels like you're getting dismissed instead of helped. Anxiety and depression can affect the body, but that doesn’t mean everything else you're experiencing should be ignored. You're clearly noticing physical changes that don't feel normal and you have right to be concerned 100%! If your current neuro isn’t taking you seriously, it’s time to find someone who will. You can ask your primary care doctor to order an MRI or even go through urgent care or the ER if the symptoms flare up again. That might get the ball rolling faster. In the meantime, you can search for MS specialists and clinics in your area on the National MS Society’s resource finder- https://www.nationalmssociety.org/resources/get-support/find-doctors-and-resources. But please don’t give up. I know it’s exhausting to keep advocating for yourself, but you’re not alone in this. Keep fighting for answers — you deserve them. All the best, Latoya (Team Member)
