How do y’all sleep?

I need some advice with how to fall asleep and sleep through the night. I have no problem laying down for a nap during the day but can’t seem to fall asleep at night and stay asleep. Laying in bed at night I guess I may notice the pain more or maybe it’s because I’m not busy running my household or with my children. All I know is that staying up late and waking up early isn’t working for me. I become grouchy and which definitely isn’t fair to my kids. Any advice I’ll gladly try just about anything at this point.

  1. finding a good sleep rhythm can be tricky sometimes when you're dealing with fatigue. Naps can be helpful during the day, but they can sometimes prevent good sleep at night too. One of the things that I have learned over the years to help support sleep is to get sun exposure as early in the morning as possible. This will look different for each person - sitting by the window, sitting on the porch or going for a walk - but that can help to sync your body with the natural sleep cycle of the day. And then if you need to take a nap, try to make it short as to not impact sleep. hope this helps! We're all just learning together.

    1. I feel you! I don't have kids, but I do run the household (my husband, our roommate-his best friend from childhood, and myself). And I am the sole income at the moment. I stay up late, I get up early, I'm cranky and grouchy, and it makes all of my motor symptoms worse. When I have a full 8 hour window that I can sleep, I will take a half pill of the muscle relaxer I was prescribed, but that's a very rare occasion.

What gets me to sleep most nights are ocean waves. There's a YouTube channel (if you have access) that streams calm ocean waves, they update it so it changes, and it lasts for 8-12 hours. I picture in my mind the waves breaking on the shore, and eventually the pain dulls and I fall asleep.

Not great advice, but it's what I have right now. I too would love to see suggestions from other people that battle the falling asleep.

      Much love 💜 💜

      1. that sounds fantastic! I love the sound of the ocean, it's incredibly relaxing. I actually just went to the beach for a day trip yesterday, and even the few hours that we were there was calming. It sounds like a great sound track to listen to throughout the night!

      2. it's great that it's available on YouTube too! They also have sound machines that you can purchase, but if there's a free option on YouTube you might as well save the money! A dollar saved is a dollar earned, right? Hope the nature sounds help. Keep us posted on how you're doing, if you'd like.

    2. on YouTube, you can also find other nature sound channels. Another favorite of mine is the rain channel. It's just the sound of rain in the forest. I have YouTube premium, so no ads and unlimited access both on the video and audio streaming, but it's well worth it. If I put it on the TV, I turn the brightness to the lowest setting and then I also have light to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night. 😁

If you search "sleep, nature" you can find several channels that stream 8-12 hour streams featuring the ocean waves, rain, crickets and wildlife (like a warm country night spent on the porch), the crackling fireplace, and more.

And Alene, I too love the ocean and am hoping to get out in the next month to enjoy a day watching the waves and looking for sea glass! There's nothing like it.

      💜💜

      1. that's fantastic! It sounds like the possibilities on YouTube are truly endless. And that's a great tip to get the pro account so you're not interrupted with ads. I would imagine that could disrupt the serene moment of the ocean or rain.

I hope that you have a wonderful time at the beach next month! It's always worth the effort to get there!

      2. , me, too! I am a big fan of certain Youtube channels that have perfected the various soothing sound options. Whether it's the sound of gentle waves on a lake or a crackling fire or a thunderstorm, the sounds never fail to relax me and help me sleep better.

        Thanks for sharing!
