Memory test

Has anyone else had a memory test done? I did one today and feel like I didn't do very well. Just stressed now.

  1. Hi, ! I'm sorry you're feeling concerned about your memory test results. I know memory tests are used to measure cognitive issues with MS, so I am sure some of our other community members have taken them. Here's some information on cognitive testing -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/symptoms/ability-to-think-concentrate-relate-ideas. I know you might already know about cognitive testing, but I wanted to share the information with you, just in case.

Also, even if you had a poor result, it doesn't necessarily mean you are experiencing permanent cognitive decline. It could be a sign of MS fatigue, or MS cog fog (as it's frequently called here) that tends to correlate to MS flares or MS fatigue.

Still, I don't blame you for feeling stressed. Hopefully, your doctor is open to talking to you about your test results and perhaps doing follow up testing, if you have concerns.

    1. Thank you, I really appreciate it.

      1. I personally have not had a memory test done, so I unfortunately can't share firsthand experience, but I just wanted to let you know that you have a community of support here! It's hard going through all the tests with MS. I see that Erin was able to share an article with you. Hopefully that was a helpful resource for you.

Do you know when you'll have the results back? And what do you hope will come of the results? Will this be able to get you eligible for different services or medication? I've been learning that there are a lot of different cognitive therapies that are available to us, I just don't think enough people know about them, which is a bummer if they can improve daily life. Well, keep us posted as you feel comfortable, and thanks for being an active member of this community here.

        1. Thank you. They said in about a week and a half. I also had another nerve conduct test and an EEG. My memory is so bad, I couldn't remember the president but could picture him. I have 2 degrees! I am terrified that it's dementia. The waiting is the worst!!

          1. it's understandably unsettling waiting for tests. You're doing the best thing though by staying connected to your doctor so they can run whatever tests are needed and create any treatment plans that you may need. When I'm awaiting tests results, I always try to remind myself that both conventional and functional medicine are advancing faster than they ever have, so we have more options today to manage our health than ever before. And I personally like to build a bridge between the two - choose the best of both worlds!

Please keep us posted as you feel comfortable and in the meantime, you'll certainly be with our thoughts!
