Newly Diagnosed

I started having symptoms about a year and a half ago; in hindsight, there were symptoms earlier. I am having trouble with the quick progression that MS is having. I went from being a functional person, employed, to having trouble with doing basic everyday activities; fatigue, loss of mobility, loss of balance, and a multitude of other symptoms. I have grab bars, motion sensor lights throughout the house, and it's beginning to look like a senior's home. Everything new that happens makes me question if the disease is progressing, and if it is progressing at a quicker-than-normal rate, if there is a normal. How do I know if I need a cane or other assistive devices?

  1. Hi I am so glad you found our community. I am sure all that you are experiencing must be overwhelming. Since you were newly diagnosed, did your doctor mention anything about what stage of MS you are in? I have included this article, which I hope will help with questions you could ask your doctor: https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/preparing-for-your-neurologist-appointment. I have also included this article since you were asking about assistive devices: https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/movement-fears. Please keep us posted on how you are feeling and what your doctor recommends. Jill (Team Member)
