Why?

Why keep fighting? It don’t seem to help at all.

  1. , I hear you. And my heat goes out to you. Living with MS is NOT easy. When you ask, "Why keep fighting?" can you expand on what you mean? Are you tired of the treatments you have tried so far? Are you feeling drained mentally?

Please know we are here for you. This community knows how draining MS can be. And each person with MS has to choose their own way of dealing with their MS. And each person has to find their own reasons for continuing the fight.

It's okay to feel worn out and done with dealing with all the challenges of dealing with MS. It's okay to honestly ask questions like yours.

And please know you're not alone here.

    1. Hi . I just want to echo what Erin wrote, that you are not alone and that your feelings are totally valid. I am not big on the whole "fighting" analogy. Though it can be wonderfully motivating, it can also lead to self-blame when MS wins. It sounds like you are experiencing progression or more difficult symptoms. Please feel free to talk about those issues here if you think we can help ... or even if you don't. Sometimes, it feels good just to vent. Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)

      1. I know how you feel. I have taken all my meds, gone for MRI's as ordered, which show no pogression, and yet my disability seems to be increasing. However, I am going to PT, prayihg and hoping for the best. My message to you is to try your best to stay positive, and remember, the only one who can make a change is you at the end of the day. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

        1. I get it, believe me, I get it, especially these days. I want to give up a lot lately. If you're feeling that way because you think it's not making a difference, well, it's probably doing more than you realize, even if it doesn't seem that way. You keep fighting because if you don't, it could get a whole lot worse. I've seen people give up and it always ends up worse.

If you want to stop fighting because you feel it's not worth it, I get that too. A lot of times it doesn't seem worth it. Sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is super small stuff. What happens in a show or book series I like? What new lego sets are coming out? What will the Phillies do next season? (admittedly, that may not help my mental health). I find that the little things actually mean a lot to me and are things I don't want to miss out on. I call these things my life preservers: https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/coping-floating

Whichever the reason for feeling this way, know we are here for you. I hope you keep fighting.
