Clear MRI

My last 2 MRI's (my last one was in 2022) were clean as in no lesions, just some grey matter but no lesions at all. I've had 3 spinal taps since 2015 (all positive) and the gamut of MS symptoms (that are progressing). I can't remember if the MS center back in 2016 diagnosed me with MS due to positive spinal taps and my symptoms/history or if they saw any lesions. Has anyone else had a clean/clear MRI but have been diagnosed with MS? Dr. Google said it is possible, but rare to have MS without lesions IF you have a positive spinal tap, symptoms/history and everything else has been ruled out (in my case they went A-Z to rule everything else out). I'm just wondering if I'm THAT RARE.

  1. Hi Kimberly

I have to ask if they looked at your spine as well? The reason I ask is there are cases of which one has zero lesions in the brain and all on the spine..

Most of mine are on my spine and few on y brain

    FYI

Yes, MS can cause lesions exclusively on the spinal cord without visible brain lesions, though this is less common. While 80% of patients develop spinal lesions, roughly 20% of those with MS may have them only in the spine. These, often found in the cervical area, cause motor weakness, numbness, and mobility issues

    1. hey Mike, I just had 3 MRI's (brain, C-spine and Thorasic) and there are zero lesions (or at least the tech who read it made a point to say No increased T2 signal intensity within the periventricular white matter and/or corpus callosum to suggest primary demyelinating disease for both the brain and C-spine but didn't use that verbiage for the thoracic. I will say my C-spine and back are super messed up and I know that can cause some of the MS symptoms but my MS symptoms have been going on for years (years before I was even diagnosed). The 3 spinal taps I've had over a 4 year period were all positive for protein. I'm wondering if MS is a root cause of back/neck issues. I've been having gait issues for a while so that may have contributed to what is now going on in my neck and back.
My body is just falling apart and I guess at this stage I should probably not even care what to name it. Earlier in my journey I wanted/needed answers and not just to be called crazy or making it up (like someone would want to make this stuff up)...now I don't think I care since I am not crazy and def going through all of it. Does it really need a name? I do call it a PITA but other than that I'm not sure I care any longer.😬
I hope life is treating you gentle these days, love all your posts with a positive end note, thanks for being you.
