Family Planning and DMT

Hi everyone, I'm looking to get some advice. Yes I've researched and yes I've spoken to my MS nurse about this.
I am nearly 32. We wanted to start trying for a baby last year, however I had a big relapse in June (didn't know at the time) and then was diagnosed with MS in August. I was told not to start trying until we spoke to the specialists, which I was happy to do.

However I've only just had my first MS nurse appointment last week! I've been given 4 DMT options. All obviously not liscened and proven to be safe during pregnancy.

I've been given mixed advice on this.
I'm considering the Ocrevus injection. I need to decide by Thursday as I have my phone call appointment.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you

  1. Hi, !

Congratulations on this new step you are taking to grow your family! I hope you are able to build the family you want in the manner you want. We have a number of community members that have had children while having MS, so it is definitely doable. We actually have one health leader that even had triplets! You can read a bit about her journey here -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/pregnant-triplets. She continued to document her pregnancy and early days at home with the kids on this site. And she wrote about her journey to becoming a mom with her first child here -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/becoming-a-mom.

Also, here's a discussion from our forums about pregnancy and motherhood and MS that I thought you might find helpful -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/forums/pregnancy-caring-for-children. As far as choosing the best treatment option, that's a highly personal decision to make with your doctor, ob/gyn, and yourself. It sounds like you have been doing your own research and, much like what you have found, the messaging about the safety of Ocrevus during pregnancy seems to be mixed. I know that makes it pretty hard to make a decision, I know!

I do hope you are able to make the best decision for you!

    Best, Erin, Team Member.
