Has anyone experienced this?

Has anyone experienced a feeling that everthing around you isn’t real? It’s a scary feeling because I think something is wrong with my brain. I don’t feel bad, it’s just a weird feeling. If so, how did you treat it?

  1. Hi, !

First, we do always suggest that if anyone is experiencing a new or worsening symptom that they talk to their doctor about it, just to be safe. While I hesitate to ever label anything a community member is experiencing, you might be dealing with a particular issue that has been labeled "cog fog". It's a blanket term people with MS use to cover all the weird cognitive issues you might deal with, like forgetting words, feeling fatigued, forgetting what you were doing, feeling disconnected or out of it, etc. While I couldn't find another person experiencing exactly what you described, we do have a LOT of articles and member comments on cog fog. Here's just one (check out the many member comments following the piece) -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/cog-fog-confusion. And here's another that I thought you might find worth the read -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/cog-fog. Treating cog fog can be a challenge and it comes down to managing the symptoms or doing what you can to possibly avoid the things that can trigger the cog fog symptoms as much as possible. Again, I would check in with your doctor, if you haven't done so already, just to be safe.

    Best, Erin, Team Member.
