How Can I Lose Weight and Keep It Off Long Term?

I’ve been trying to lose weight for a while now, but it feels like no matter what I do, I keep losing a little and then gaining it back. I’ve tried eating healthier and being more active, but staying consistent has been really difficult. I’ve also been looking into reliable weight-loss information, including what I’ve found on DosePharmacy, to better understand my options. I’m starting to feel frustrated and would love to hear from others who have been through something similar. What worked for you, and how did you stay motivated?

  1. Hi , I hope our members respond directly to this thread, but I wanted to share a couple of stories from our members about their weight-loss journeys: https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/weight-loss and https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/comorbidity-obesity. I hope this is helpful. Jill (Team Member)

  2. Hello Grace, I know the struggle.is real. Here is something I wrote for another group, id love to share with you. Keep in mind its 95%,serious. All right you asked for it! I hope your feeling well and having a good day, here is how I suggest you get moving! . Go to your smart TV open YouTube and search "zumba songname" or "Nintendo zumba", lots of stuff comes up, or open YouTube on your phone and cast it to TV. Here is another important part, you don't need a special outfit for this, if it's cold wear your sweats, if it's a moderate temp wear your pajamas, if it's hot wear tshirt and shorts, but consider how much time and energy you can save washing,, drying and folding clothes by exercising without them by this method! You asked, hehe, haha, hoho! I have a list of songs if this interests you.

  3. Hi, !

I understand the struggle to lose weight and keep it off. And, what works for one person may not work as well for another, so take any input from me with a grain of salt. I have lost fifty pounds and kept it off for two years now (with a five pound fluctuation window). And, what has worked for me is the following --

Not weighing myself daily, but once or twice a week max, preferably at the same time of day each time I weigh.

Make sure I have plenty of fiber everyday. I do this by eating things like oatmeal, fiber granola bars, bran cereal, and high fiber fruits and veggies.

Stay hydrated. Water is best, but, heck, as long as you're not drinking your calories, have at it.

Everyone pushes plenty of protein, which definitely helps you feel full, but I am not a big meat eater, so just do your best. I snack on small quantities of cheese, cottage cheese, and nuts throughout the day.

Find an exercise you like and stick with it. I can walk everyday and that's what works best for me most days. I try to get 10,000 steps most days, preferably outside, but that's me.

But, also be willing to try/add/drop exercises as needed. I have fallen prey to more than one social media algorithim and have enjoyed incorporating the "Chinese grandma tai chi" routine lately. I like it and it's been working for me. I also sometimes go through periods of doing more lymphatic workouts, stretching videos, light weight lifting, etc.

And, in light of what anthonyp shared, when my kids were into Just Dance on the Wii (or was it the XBox?), that was a GREAT way for me to get some cardio and spend some time with my kids, so don't hesitate to think outside the box for exercise options like that.

I still have more to lose, but that's what's been working for me. I know it can feel like a heck of a lot of trial-and-error to find what works best for you. I know many people find food tracking/journaling to be great, but, for now, I do avoid it as a I have tendency to take it too far. I'm also a grazer and not big on 3 big meals a day. It's all about knowing yourself and what makes changes manageable for you.

As always, please use your discretion when trying any new diets or exercises and consult your doctor when possible.

I hope you find what works for you and good luck! We're cheering you on!

    Best, Erin, Team Member.
